Entity Incorporation First

Need a legal entity in Yerevan before opening your bank account?

To open an Armenian corporate bank account, your business must generally be registered with the State Register of Legal Entities of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia. Opening an account directly for a non-resident foreign entity is exceptionally complex and restricted by local banks. We recommend incorporating a domestic Armenian LLC (ՍՊԸ) or Joint Stock Company (CJSC) to significantly increase your approval chances. Explore our comprehensive services for our corporate formation and governance services to set up your entity quickly, or consult our advisors regarding structured governance via our corporate formation and governance services to ensure your local administrative representation meets all statutory obligations.

Roadmap

Our four-step Armenian banking application process

1

Pre-approval assessment and bank selection

We evaluate your company's ownership structure, director residency, counterparty geographies, and expected turnover against the criteria of Armenian commercial banks to choose the provider most likely to approve your file.

2

Document translation, notarization, and dossier assembly

We collect your charter (statute), State Register extract, UBO passports, and business contracts. We handle certified translations into Armenian and coordinate notarization and apostille requirements.

3

Compliance submission and liaison

We prepare, manage, and submit applications on your behalf where permitted by law. We manage follow-up requests from bank AML officers regarding transaction models, source of funds, and business partners.

4

Account activation and e-banking access

Once the bank issues final approval, we coordinate signature formalities—either in person or via Power of Attorney where accepted. You receive your multi-currency IBANs, digipass tokens, and internet banking credentials.

Cross-Border Founders

Business bank accounts in Armenia for international non-residents

Armenia remains an attractive hub for international founders due to its territorial stability, favorable tax systems for IT firms, and modern commercial banking sector. However, opening an account as a non-resident requires a thorough understanding of Armenian regulatory nuances. First, Armenian banks distinguish sharply between the director's country of residence and the company's country of incorporation. A non-resident individual may serve as the sole director and 100% shareholder of an Armenian LLC. However, Armenian banks apply enhanced due diligence (EDD) to non-resident-controlled entities. In response to global financial tracking and sanctions enforcement, banks scrutinize whether the company plans to conduct actual business or is simply acting as a pass-through entity. Second, remote onboarding is not universally guaranteed. While Armenian law allows corporate acts via Power of Attorney (PoA), each commercial bank maintains independent risk policies. Some banks permit initial dossier submission remotely but insist that the company director visit a Yerevan branch in person to verify identity and collect online security tokens. Other banks accept an apostilled PoA and notarized passport copies for full remote setup, though eligibility depends on your nationality, tax residency, and business sector. We evaluate your profile in advance to determine realistic remote capabilities before submitting applications.
